FTN GSM-R Fixed Telephone Network Programme - Snagging, Repairs and Maintenance Works

Provision of a variety of disciplines and trades to carry out and hand back remedial, renewal and maintenance activities across the full range of FTN assets in LNE, LNW, Wales, Western and London regions.

MECX delivered the contract under its Principal Contractors License over a two-year period.  Network Rail awarded the contract to MECX to facilitate the completion of the FTN programme so that it could transfer operational responsibility for the in-scope assets to Maintenance.

Works included REB and other FTN housing unit maintenance and snagging detail, often located at stations or in other remote trackside locations and involved:

  • Painting, signage, anti-graffiti application, graffiti removal
  • Electrical maintenance, such as wiring, sockets, and lights, secure door replacement,
  • Civils: fencing, installation of gates, construction of steps, walkways, stairways, parking lots, de-vegetation, paving, concrete works, concrete cutting
  • Buildings: roofing, plumbing, conventional electrical maintenance, cabling (signalling, telecoms, conventional electrics, fibre, cat 3 & 4) joinery (windows & doors,
  • Permanent Way improvements: sleeper replacement, troughing,
  • SPT installation
  • Battery replacement and upgrades (LV & HV)

All planned in conjunction with the FTN programme management team backed up with detailed completion reports, including photographs of the before and after condition, and handed over to Network Rail Maintenance.
